Body Sensation
Vedanā
वेदना
In Yoga, it refers to all physical sensations arising within the body, such as pain, heat, coldness, vibration, or tingling.
Vedanā means "sensation," "feeling," or "pain" in Sanskrit (a Buddhist term). In Yoga, it refers to all physical sensations arising within the body, such as pain, heat, coldness, vibration, or tingling.
It is a crucial object of mindfulness and Vipassana meditation. Objectively observing body sensations allows one to focus on the "here and now" without being carried away by thoughts or emotions. This deepens the connection between body and mind.
During asana (poses), students are guided to "focus awareness on sensations like stretch, pain, or comfort." As an introduction to meditation, practices like body scanning are used to observe sensations. Instructors convey the importance of listening to one's inner body through sensations.
Emphasize that "body sensations are a mirror reflecting the state of the mind, and observing them deepens self-understanding." Encourage observing even uncomfortable sensations without judgment.
