Svīkāra means "acceptance," "acknowledgment," or "assent" in Sanskrit. In Yoga, it refers to the state of mind and practice of affirming and accepting oneself as one is—including strengths and weaknesses, successes and failures, past and present—without judgment.
It is an essential element for mental calmness and happiness. By liberating oneself from self-criticism and self-negation, inner peace and confidence are nurtured. Self-acceptance also leads to acceptance of others.
Students are guided to "accept themselves as they are" through meditation and introspection. During asana, it encourages "accepting one's body's limits and current state without judgment." Instructors convey that self-acceptance brings mental freedom and true happiness.
Emphasize that "self-acceptance is not stagnation, but a foundation for self-growth." Convey the importance of loving one's imperfect self and fostering self-compassion.
