Perfectionism refers to a personality trait characterized by striving for flawlessness and setting excessively high standards, often accompanied by overly critical self-evaluations.
While it can drive achievement, extreme perfectionism often leads to anxiety, procrastination, and self-doubt. In Yoga, it is viewed as a form of attachment to outcome (Raga) and a hindrance to inner peace.
In asana practice, students are encouraged to release the need for perfect poses and focus on the internal experience (Sthira Sukham). Instructors may address the tendency towards self-criticism and comparison, guiding students towards self-acceptance and process-oriented practice.
Emphasize that "Yoga encourages striving for one's best with non-attachment to outcome, rather than chasing an unattainable ideal of perfection." Convey that self-compassion and acceptance of imperfection foster greater peace and joy in practice and life.
