Brahman
ब्रह्मन्
In Yoga philosophy, it refers to the ultimate reality or universal consciousness that pervades the cosmos, transcending time, space, and causality.
Also known asThe Absolute / Ultimate Reality
Brahman means "expansion" or "growth" in Sanskrit. In Yoga philosophy, it refers to the ultimate reality or universal consciousness that pervades the cosmos, transcending time, space, and causality.
It is the origin of all existence; all forms, manifest or unmanifest, and all phenomena in the universe are considered manifestations of Brahman. Realizing that Atman (the true self of the individual) is identical with Brahman is believed to be the key to enlightenment.
In meditation practice, the concept of Brahman is referred to with phrases like "oneness with the cosmos" or "universal consciousness." Cues like "connect with cosmic energy through your breath" may be used. Instructors convey the importance of deepening the connection between self and the cosmos.
Emphasize that "cosmic consciousness is not just a concept but can be experienced through practice." Encourage students to cultivate a sense of interconnectedness with everything in daily life.
