Half Moon Pose
Ardha Chandrāsana
अर्ध चन्द्रासन
It is a beautiful and balanced standing pose, like a half-moon floating in the night sky.
Ardha Chandrāsana is comprised of "Ardha" (half), "Chandra" (moon), and "Āsana" (posture/pose). It is a beautiful and balanced standing pose, like a half-moon floating in the night sky.
This pose simultaneously strengthens the core, legs, and ankles, while deepening hip opening and lateral body extension. It activates the entire body's energy while maintaining balance, fostering mental focus and grace.
Stand on one leg, tilting the torso sideways, and extending the other leg towards the ceiling. The hand of the standing leg is placed on the floor or a block, and the upper arm extends straight up towards the ceiling. Cultivate an awareness of opening the pelvis towards the ceiling, directing the gaze upwards or forwards.
Emphasize "firmly pressing the sole of the standing foot into the earth" and "extending the lifted leg as if pressing against a back wall," promoting a stable foundation. If balance is difficult, suggest using wall or chair support, prioritizing stability over perfect form.
