Eagle Pose
Garudāsana
गरुडासन
Garudāsana is named after Garuda, the sacred bird in Hindu mythology (mount of Lord Vishnu).
Garudāsana is named after Garuda, the sacred bird in Hindu mythology (mount of Lord Vishnu). This pose involves intertwining the arms and legs, enhancing concentration and balance while improving joint flexibility.
It increases the range of motion in major joints including hips, knees, ankles, shoulders, and elbows, while promoting blood circulation. By focusing on the body's central axis, it fosters mental concentration and stability, helping to find inner stillness.
Stand on one leg, deeply intertwining the other leg around the standing leg, hooking the toes around the calf. Intertwine both arms at the elbows, joining palms or the backs of the hands. Lower the hips and focus the gaze on a single point.
Guide students to be aware of the "space created by the intertwining" and "drawing into the body's center," conveying the sensation of contraction leading to release. If balance is challenging, suggest using wall or chair support, encouraging students to approach the pose without forcing.
