Child's Pose
Bālāsana
बालासन
It is a resting pose that deeply relaxes the mind and body, resembling a child peacefully curled up in sleep.
Bālāsana is comprised of "Bāla" (child, young) and "Āsana" (posture/pose). It is a resting pose that deeply relaxes the mind and body, resembling a child peacefully curled up in sleep.
This pose not only helps recover from physical fatigue but also alleviates mental stress and anxiety. It calms the heart rate, gently compresses the internal organs to aid digestion, and tranquilizes the nervous system. It promotes self-acceptance and introspection.
It is consistently used as a resting pose at the end of a Yoga class, allowing for integration and recovery. Kneel with knees spread wide, torso folded forward, and forehead resting on the floor. Arms can rest alongside the body or extend forward. Release all tension in the body, focusing on deep breaths for complete relaxation.
Present this pose as a "safe haven for rest," encouraging students to move at their own pace. Suggest props like blankets under the forehead or cushions between the knees to maximize comfort and promote deep relaxation.
