Corpse Pose
Śavāsana
शवासन
It is a vital final pose in Yoga, where the body's energy is completely released, leading to deep physical and mental relaxation.
Śavāsana is comprised of "Śava" (corpse, dead body) and "Āsana" (posture/pose). It is a vital final pose in Yoga, where the body's energy is completely released, leading to deep physical and mental relaxation.
This pose allows the effects gained from asanas and pranayama to integrate into the body, releasing all physical and mental tension. It tranquilizes the nervous system, reducing stress, anxiety, and fatigue. It encourages introspection and activates the body's self-healing capabilities.
This pose is always practiced at the end of a Yoga class, serving as a time for mind-body integration and recovery. Lie on your back, spreading legs hip-width apart, allowing feet to naturally fall outwards. Arms rest slightly away from the body, palms facing up. Close your eyes, consciously release tension from each part of the body, and allow your breath to flow naturally.
Emphasize "complete surrender" and "allowing the body's weight to sink into the earth" to facilitate deep release. Provide maximum comfort by offering blankets if students feel cold, or eye pillows for the forehead, guiding them towards profound relaxation.
