Shoulder Stand
Sarvāṅgāsana
सर्वाङ्गासन
Translated as "All Limbs Pose" and also known as the "Queen of Asanas," it is an inversion pose.
Sarvāṅgāsana is comprised of "Sarva" (all, entire), "Aṅga" (limb, part), and "Āsana" (posture/pose). Translated as "All Limbs Pose" and also known as the "Queen of Asanas," it is an inversion pose.
This pose is believed to stimulate endocrine glands like the thyroid and parathyroid, helping to regulate metabolism and hormone balance. By inverting the effects of gravity, it promotes blood and lymphatic circulation, aiding in reducing swelling and fatigue. It brings mental calmness and serenity.
Lie on your back, lift both legs towards the ceiling, and support the lower back with hands, balancing on the shoulders, keeping the body in a straight line. Create a strong foundation with the shoulders and elbows to avoid neck strain. Placing a blanket under the shoulders can further reduce neck pressure.
Prioritize "creating a strong foundation with shoulders and elbows" and "avoiding moving the neck sideways" to protect the neck. Like Headstand, contraindications apply, so pre-screen students for health conditions and advise against forcing the pose if any are present.
