Siddhāsana

सिद्धासन

It's considered one of the most suitable postures for meditation, believed to aid the path to spiritual accomplishment and enlightenment.

Also known asPerfect Pose / Adept's Pose

Meaning of the Term

Siddhāsana is comprised of "Siddha" (accomplished, perfect) and "Āsana" (posture/seat). It's considered one of the most suitable postures for meditation, believed to aid the path to spiritual accomplishment and enlightenment.

Background

This is the second most important meditation posture after Lotus Position (Padmāsana) and is often recommended for men. It is believed to naturally engage Mula Bandha (Root Lock), contributing to energy stability and improved concentration.

Usage in Yoga Context

One heel is placed against the perineum, and the other heel is placed directly above it or on the pubic bone. Students stabilize their knees on the floor and lengthen their spine, promoting the flow of Prana (life force energy). This pose is suitable for extended periods of meditation and breathing exercises, often chosen when seeking mental stability.

Notes for Instructors

Guide students not to be fixated on the meaning of "accomplished," but rather to focus on the stability of the sitting bones and the lengthening of the spine. If foot placement is difficult, advise adjustments to avoid strain on ankles or knees, without forcing the pose.
